Ghivine Albergo Diffuso was born from the careful conservation-focused restoration of three residential buildings, spread across three floors and located in the historic center of Dorgali. A fourth adjacent building is awaiting renovation.
The original core of the property dates back to the late 1800s and features the typical characteristics of traditional Dorgali houses.
Back then, space was limited and largely shared. Several families lived in the building, with each room housing a family unit. A common ground-floor room (sa cuchina) was used for storing provisions and baking bread. But the true heart of the home was the inner courtyard (sa corte) — a multifunctional space. It extended the domestic environment, hosted daily chores, served as a social gathering spot, and at night, sheltered carts and oxen.
The original structure lacked a linear development plan; as families grew, new rooms and floors were added. As a result, each current hotel room reflects a different construction phase.
The renovation, started in 2016 and completed in March 2018, intentionally preserved the original spaces, harmonizing innovative techniques with traditional materials.
Thus, Ghivine Albergo Diffuso was created — born from an innate sense of hospitality and a deep bond with Sardinia’s centuries-old traditions.
