Sardinian Wonders
The area is full of caves and natural grottos. Among the most famous in Sardinia are the Bue Marino Caves, accessible by a 45-minute hike or by boat from the small port in the seaside hamlet of Cala Gonone.
Inland, you’ll find the Ispinigoli Cave, whose massive column—one of the tallest in Europe—leads visitors into a spectacular, almost Dantean underground world.
This is a land where nature has truly outdone itself—and where the traces of ancient human presence only add to its richness. Archaeological sites such as dolmens, Domus de Janas (prehistoric rock-cut tombs), Giants’ Tombs, and Nuragic villages all testify to a vibrant, centuries-old island civilization.
If you’re passionate about the sea, Dorgali’s seaside district, Cala Gonone, offers stunning beaches like Cala Fuili, Ziu Martine, Cartoe, Osala, and the famous Cala Luna, with crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life—including, occasionally, dolphins and whales.
And if that’s still not enough, let yourself be enchanted by the warm hospitality and kindness of the locals, known for their incredible craftsmanship. From leatherworkers to pastry chefs, embroiderers, weavers, ceramists, carpenters, and knife-makers—many young artisans continue the ancient traditions passed down through generations. You can visit their humble yet art-filled workshops, where raw materials are magically transformed into unique handmade creations.
Dorgali’s people are respectful stewards of nature. In addition to producing excellent wines, they make aromatic and flavorful cheeses from local pastures—perfect to enjoy with the traditional pane carasau and moddizzosu bread, still baked in home ovens by many families.
A touch of literature…
“… Dorgali. And suddenly, around a bend in the hill, appears one of those happy villages that linger in the memory like an open smile from the past.
In the clear air, where the tinkling of a bell can be heard, the village stretches across the rocky mountain slope, with young vineyards seeming to sprout from the stone, with trees, blooming geraniums—bringing shade, color, and joy.
Its women are among the most beautiful in Sardinia, and its traditional costumes are among the most elegant…”
